Tennessee to Help Veterans in Trouble

Tennessee veterans are getting extra help keeping their lives on track. A new State law is the first in the country to send more money to a program keeping troubled veterans out of jail.

Veteran’s court launched in October but now has a permanent source of funding. Inside the courtroom, it’s not uncommon to hear laughter, see children and families greet the judge and watch troubled veterans make a complete turnaround. “My family is back,” said Veteran Jeremiah Ray. I’m back in my kid’s life. Life is good.”

More veterans will soon get to walk through the courtroom doors. “Because funding is finally available,” said Veteran Court Judge Melissa Blackburn.

A new Tennessee law is giving a portion of DUI fines to Veterans Court. It means if you get slapped with DUI, $50 dollars of your fine will go to help veterans go through the 11-month program. “No drugs.
