Bacon Flavored Seaweed is Healthier Than Kale

Bacon is considered by many to be among the most irresistible foods, but sometimes we reluctantly pass it up in favor of a healthier option.

Well, now we can have the best of both worlds.

Scientists at Oregon State University (OSU) have reportedly developed and patented a new strain of seaweed that has twice the nutritional value of kale and β€” wait for it β€” apparently tastes exactly like bacon when fried.

Time reports, β€œThe bizarre but tasty creation is actually a new strain of red marine algae called dulse that is packed full of minerals and protein and looks like red lettuce.”

Typically found in the wild along the Pacific and Atlantic coastlines, dulse is normally harvested and dried to be used as a cooking ingredient or nutritional supplement.

But OSU researchers say that with the new development, their variety can be farmed and eaten fresh. (continue at NewsChannel5)
