On Monday, News 2 is partnering with the American Red Cross to host the ‘News 2 Donor Day’ blood drive across Middle Tennessee.
Honora Bates, Account Manager with the American Red Cross said, “It’s always important to give blood, because the need that patients have always exists. Right now, there’s an urgent need for [persons with] O Negative, B Negative, and A Negative blood types to come out and give blood, so we don’t have a shortage.”
According to the Red Cross, giving blood takes about 45 minutes and no appointment is necessary.
Bates said blood that is donated locally is used in Middle Tennessee and nearby states. “We serve the hospitals here locally in Nashville. We also go up to Southern parts of Illinois and Missouri, and up through the middle strip of Kentucky.”
In order to donate blood you must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.
