Business Data Suggests Mixed News for TN

The number of businesses operating in Tennessee continues to climb, illustrating the state’s economic strength, according to a new economic report.

The state recorded 8,317 new business filings in the second quarter of 2015, up 9.9 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the quarterly report published by the Secretary of State and the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s Center for Business and Economic Research.

“Tennessee has been very successful in terms of recruiting new businesses to the state and with our entrepreneurship,” William Fox, director of the Center for Business and Economic Research, said in a conference call Tuesday. “It’s a combination of what has been solid growth at the national level, as measured by employment, combined with a lot of success by Tennessee, in terms of recruiting business, growing our own businesses.”
