Several Nashville musicians came together Wednesday to re-record a classic song as a tribute to Cecil the lion.

Singers Jay Siegel, Beau Davidson and producer Jimmy Nichols re-imagined the iconic song “The lion sleeps tonight.”

Siegel sang the falsetto lead in the 1961 hit song with his group “The Tokens.”

“I don’t think there’s anyone I’ve ever met from the ages of 3 to 93 years old who doesn’t know “The lion sleeps tonight” and I think it can be as contemporary today as it was back then,” said Sielgel.

The remake will be featured on Davidson’s new album, which is expected to come out this winter.

“I love nature. I think a lot of people would agree this is a tragedy that happened with Cecil. We want to not just pay respect to Cecil, but all wildlife,” said Davidson. (continue reading at WKRN)
