Feds Waste $10 Billion a Month

Federal agencies are writing checks to the wrong people, in the wrong amounts, wasting $125-billion dollars in 2014 alone. According to Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), that’s enough to buy an iPad for every American or feed everyone in this country a year’s worth of Chipotle meals!

The new report from the Government Accountability Office shows the $125-billion dollars wasted in “improper payments” is a $19-billion dollar increase from the year before. National Taxpayers Union President Pete Sepp says, “The federal government has known about improper payment problems for several decades, has had laws in place requiring agencies to do something about it for almost a decade and a half and still, it’s getting worse.”

Improper payments are payments that should not have been paid by federal agencies or are made in incorrect amounts. This GAO report shows Medicaid is joined by Medicare and the IRS as the biggest offenders, responsible for more than 75-percent of the wasted money this past year (continue reading at NewsChannel5)
