Local Non Profit Is Worth $500 Million to Middle TN

You may think of used shoes and home goods when you think of Goodwill, but the nonprofit’s local branch has an economic impact of nearly a half-billion dollars.

That’s according to the results of new research released today by Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State University’s Business and Economic Research Center. The study found that Goodwill accounts for $476 million in business revenue across its 48-county footprint in West and Middle Tennessee.

According to the study, Goodwill is responsible for nearly 13,400 jobs across its territory, including its own employees, which total more than 2,100.

Goodwill of Middle Tennessee spends about $77 million annually, while wages and salaries associated with Goodwill jobs and external job placements total nearly $277 million, according to the study. This means each dollar spent by Goodwill creates $3.30 in benefits to local communities.
