Titans’ Fans Begin to Look to 2016 To Dull Current Pain

As it stands on Sunday night, the Tennessee Titans hold the top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Titans sit at an ugly 2-9 after today’s loss and the only other team with 2 wins is the Cleveland Browns who play tomorrow night.

So, the Titans have the first overall pick in the draft and the question is what do you do with that pick?

Protect Marcus Mariota?

The Tennessee Titans have one of the worst sack totals in the league, and have shown that this group as it currently stands can’t protect their quarterback enough. On top of that, the best way to protect a rookie quarterback is with a strong running game and the Titans do not have that. Partially because of the talent at the RB position but maybe even more because the Titans don’t get great run blocking.

So, the obvious answer to what the Titans should do with the first pick is add an offensive tackle right? Laremy Tunsil is the consensus top OT and he has been a bulldozer at Ole Miss even coming off of the leg injury he suffered a year ago. He competed well with elite pass rusher and is a big reason why Chad Kelly is having such a good year.

Auburn OT Shon Coleman and Michigan State OT Jack Conklin also project to be good starting OTs at the next level that should be available high in the second round.

Offensive weapons?

Mariota likes to take his time in the pocket, but he does so because his receivers can’t get open. This draft is riddled with great wide receiver prospects, so it doesn’t make sense to grab for one here. If you are looking for someone that would be a great fit for the Titans, Josh Doctson from TCU is your guy.

Doctson is 6’3″ and has some of the best hands in college football. Not only that, but he makes plays with the ball in the air whether that means going up for 50/50 balls or bursting past DBs to make a great catch. He is the perfect compliment to this offense full of smaller, faster WRs who can’t make plays outside.
