Cool:  New School Board Alert System for Public School Parents

Starting this school year, Robertson County might arguably have the most state-of-the-art buses in Tennessee.

They’re installing cameras from several different angles on each bus attached to a GPS system that tracks their buses every move.

This allows for a new app they’re calling “Here Comes the Bus”. It sends parents a text message when the bus is within a mile of their house.

“We have a lot of latch-key kids their parents leave early in the morning and they leave them hoping trusting that we’re going to come by and pick them up on time and so the here come the bus app it just allows for accountability, transparency and overall security and safety,” said Director of Transportation Joshua Hinerman.

The GPS system doesn’t just tell the district where the bus is, it shows exactly when it stops, when the yellow lights come, when the stop arm is up and more.
