Get Ready for 2 Gigabyte Internet Service

More than half a million customers in Middle Tennessee were set to have residential multi-gigabit broadband blazingservice by late May, according to an announcement by Comcast.

Officials with the company said the Gigabit Pro, a symmetrical, 2 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) service, would be delivered via a fiber-to-the-home solution.

According to Comcast’s statement Wednesday, the service would be offered broadly across the area and would be the fastest residential internet speed in the country.

The service had already been launched in Chattanooga, Atlanta, Florida, and California. Those with Comcast said they planned to have the service in 18 million homes across the country by the end of the year.

“As one of Nashville’s largest employers, we have steadily invested in our technology, added to our employee base and unveiled new products and services, making the launch of Gigabit Pro the latest in a series of investments across the state,” Doug Guthrie, SVP of Comcast Cable’s South Region, said.
