The video created a stir online. “I’m gonna shoot you in the f*%$# face. Open it!” said Officer Birch in the video. Attorney John M.L. Brown is unphased, “In a perfect world he might’ve done it a little different but I’m not bothered by it, not a bit.” Brown represents police officers like Birch, whose actions get called into question, “Communication is important in stressful situations. I think he communicated effectively. That would not be the way he communicates in Sunday school.”

Metro police say Officer Birch conducted a felony traffic stop. All he knew from a 911 call is that he needed to pull over a man with a gun. Walter Fisher, a former UT football player, got spotted in a restaurant parking lot with two guns in his hands. He has a permit to carry and happened to be scaring away men breaking into his car. “If you’re gonna carry these guns legally, you have to expect the police to react if you deployed it in some fashion,” said Brown.
