Metro Actively Assisting Illegals to Get Official Papers

Some of Nashville’s undocumented immigrants will get help avoiding deportation in a new effort by the Metro government. The city took a rare step Wednesday to make it as easy as possible for immigrants to collect official documents.

Even if undocumented, immigrants still create important paper trails through school records, medical and utility bills, and banking and tax documents — all of which can help them avoid deportation in some cases.

“The best thing is to have as many proofs of identity and residency as they can,” said Karla Vazquez, development coordinator for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition. (continue reading at WPLN)
