Mysterious Illness Strikes Williamson County Students

Parents say students are mysteriously getting sick at one local school and one mom thinks she knows what’s to blame. Sarah Hipp says her 13 year old daughter complained of continuous headaches, nausea, trouble breathing, and swelling. Doctors diagnosed her with a sinus infection and that’s when the 7th grader told her mom that maintenance workers were recently painting at the school and the paint fumes were bothering her.

Sarah Hipp contacted school officials to ask about the paint. Williamson County school leaders say workers only use water based VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) free paint.

School leaders have not changed their painting policies so Sarah Hipp created an online petition asking that maintenance workers to refrain from painting while students are in class.

So far, the petition has collected more than 200 e-signatures in three days. The petition is connecting other parents who are sharing similar stories of their children coming down with asthma attacks and allergic reactions. A group of parents believe the paint is to blame.
