Nashville One of the Most Business Friendly Cities

When stacked up with cities of similar size, Nashville’s quite an affordable place to do business.
Or so goes the assessment by a recent study from KPMG’s corporate site-selection division.
Among peer metros with between 750,000 and 2 million people, Nashville places No. 3 in KPMG’s report of most cost-friendly cities for business.
On average, business costs in the Nashville area are 6.2 percent lower than the U.S. baseline, according to KPMG’s report. That baseline cost is defined as the average business costs in the four largest metro areas in the U.S. (New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago).

In terms of mid-size peers, only New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La., topped Nashville on the firm’s rankings.

From a business costs standpoint, Nashville placed ahead of cities traditionally considered peers — and even competitors when it comes to recruiting economic development deals. According to KPMG’s report, Nashville’s business cost index is lower than Austin, Raleigh and Indianapolis.
KPMG’s study measured 26 cost components in each market, from local taxes, labor and transportation costs, to facility and utility costs.

The report highlights Nashville’s low-cost pitch often cited by corporate recruiters at the state and local level when it comes to luring new businesses and expansions in the region.
