Nashville Firefighters Honor 9/11 Heroes

Firefighters from Tennessee and Kentucky climbed the William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower Sunday in memory of the 343 firefighters who died on September 11, 2001 in New York City.

Participants of the climb wore their full firefighting gear.

“It’s probably about 50 pounds total,” said Captain Thomas Chaffin of the Franklin Fire Department.

The firefighters climbed the 28-story building four times to reach the equivalent of 110 floors, representing the number of floors in the Twin Towers.

The physically grueling climb took the firefighters about an hour and a half.  “When you think about the sacrifice that was made, the men and women that we’re climbing for, it definitely moves you and gives you motivation every step,” said Williamson County Firefighter Mondo Grimes.
