Why Are Williamson County Schools So Much Better?

Much like the lure of mountain or lake views, schools are often on the checklists of home buyers. In Middle Tennessee, Williamson County Schools are often at the top of those lists.

People know of the school district’s top ACT scores, state test scores and high graduation rates. They know students are regularly National Merit finalists and state title winners in sports and performing arts.

Locals say the school district is a major asset, while droves of newcomers relocate specifically for the schools.

Milagros Bodeo and her family moved to Franklin from Ohio in June. Before settling on a house, she settled on a school.

Bodeo researched state test scores and school rankings online. After matching potential houses with desired schools, she set up school visits. It was only after a positive visit to Franklin High School that the Bodeo family closed the deal on a home.

Bodeo’s story is not uncommon, said local realtor Paige Thompson. Schools are the No. 1 things families consider, and nine out of 10 relocations in the area are driven by the school system, Thompson said.
