MTSU Study Reveals Only Slim Majority of Locals Are Pro-Life

The results of a poll conducted by Middle Tennessee State University reaffirm what Tennessee Right to Life leaders have said for years: the Volunteer State is strongly pro-life.

In a random telephone survey of 603 registered voters statewide, the MTSU found a total of 53% said abortion should be illegal in either all cases (22%) or most cases (31%). By contrast a total of 39% said abortion should be legal either in all cases (14%) or most cases (25%).

Naturally, the story in places like the Daily News Journal and the Times Free Press focused not on the 14 point spread [53% to 39%] or the greater number that said abortion should be illegal in all case than said abortion should be legal in all cases [22% to 14%].

Instead it quoted Ken Blake, director of the poll at Middle Tennessee State University, who said opposition to abortion “runs highest among Tennessee’s evangelical Christian and Republican voters.”
