TN a Top Destination for Abortion Travel

According to data released from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Tennessee has the third-highest percentage of abortions obtained by out-of-state residents.

The report cites the latest data collected in 2012 from 47 reporting areas, omitting California, Louisiana, Maryland and New Hampshire. The percentage of abortions obtained by out-of-state residents in Tennessee was 24.5% according to the report. Kansas led all states with 50.9%, followed by North Dakota with 31.1 percent.

Of 45 reporting areas excluding California, D.C., Florida, Maine, New Hampshire and Wyoming, Tennessee ranked 15th in 2012 among total abortions reported by known age with 15,756. 20-29 year-olds accounted for the bulk of the abortions reported, with 60.6% of the total. 20-24 year-olds reported 5,448 and 25-29 year-olds reported 4,094 procedures. The totals were just above the national average for women in their 20s which accounted for 58.2% of abortions nationally during 2012.
