Even though the Tennessee Titans lost Sunday, they actually won.
With a 30-24 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts, the Titans finished claimed the first overall pick in the NFL draft.
They dropped seven of their final eight games to finish 3-13. The Cleveland Browns also lost Sunday and are 3-13, but the Titans won the tiebreaker, which is strength of schedule. Tennessee’s opponents had a winning percentage of .494 and Cleveland’s were .532.
Teams with “weaker” schedules win the tie-breakers for draft order.
The San Diego Chargers (5-11) get the No. 3 pick over Dallas (5-11) by virtue of their .511 strength of schedule vs. Dallas’ .532.
