‘ACLU vs America’ Comes to Sumner County Schools

The ACLU has filed a federal complaint over Sumner County Schools’ transgender bathroom policy.

The complaint was filed Thursday with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.

The district’s policy prohibits transgender students from using the restrooms that correspond with their gender identity. The ACLU said this policy violates federal anti-discrimination laws and the U.S. Constitution.

According to a news release, the complaint was filed on behalf of a transgender high school freshman and her parents.
