400 Teachers Quit Last Year and Metro Schools Doesn’t Know Why

More than 400 teachers left Metro schools last year for unknown reasons.

The district has very little data on why. As such, there is no way for school officials to find ways to keep those teachers in the classroom.

Katie Cour, executive director of talent strategy, knows the district’s lack of a teacher retention program, as listed as a deficiency in a recent Metro Council audit, is a serious knock on her department — especially with a major focus in the district on recruiting high-caliber teachers.

“I’m not going to sugarcoat this,” Cour said. “Teacher retention of the right teachers is the thing we can do right. We are not doing everything we can to make sure that happens.” (continue reading)
