On Demand, In Home Healthcare Comes to Nashville

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: It’s like Uber, but for _____.

In the past few months, several companies connected to the so-called “on-demand” economy have rolled out in or announced plans for Nashville, offering options for delivery of groceries( and other stuff), lawn care and even recruiting. Add to that list Dose Healthcare, a Nashville-based startup that brings an Uber-like approach to Nashville’s biggest industry.

Founded by Cole Hawkins and Jade Preis, Dose offers users in-home appointments with nurse practitioners that they can request online (or with an old-fashioned phone call). The service costs $129 a visit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or $199 for overnight visits. Users can also opt for a subscription model, which is $39 a month and then $35 a visit.

The company doesn’t take insurance, Preis said, but users can get a copy of their bill to submit to their insurers (or, if they have a high-deductible plan, use their health savings account).
Dose launched just this May. and is currently handling about three to five calls a day, Hawkins said. The team’s ideal volume level is about 350 appointments a week, the co-founders said, because they hope to maintain a level of exclusivity that they think will appeal to patients.
