This Is What Nashville Looked Like in 1985

If you’re a new resident of Nashville, you may be tired of hearing people say how much the city has changed.

Nashville photographer Hank Devito documents in pictures how Nashville has changed since 1985.

“Well, you look at the photos, it had a small town flavor to it, even up to the 80s,” said Devito.

Devito’s 30-year-old photos are stunning.

“Most of these buildings are gone, replaced by skyscrapers and modern buildings,” said Devito.

“This one they tore down right, Candyland, which is now the public library. That’s at 13th and Broadway. That’s where The Tennessean’s offices are now.”

In 1985, the hole in the ground at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway was soon to be what we now call the old convention center.
