Legislature May Pursue Federal Nullification Laws

Last week, among the reported 400 attendees at a “Religious Freedom Rally” in front of the state Capitol sponsored by the Tennessee Pastor Network, were about 40 state legislators.

The rally, which featured several topical speakers — Rafael Cruz, father of GOP presidential aspirant Sen. Ted Cruz; Richard Land, president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary; and Joe Davis, whose fame comes via his wife, Kim, the Kentucky county clerk — and a state legislator, Rep. Judd Matheny, R-Tullahoma.

Matheny’s speech summarized the tenor of the rally:

“Tennessee is under assault. Drip by drip, Obama’s policies, morals and unconstitutional actions are trickling into our state, eroding the fabric of Tennessee.”

Matheny inveighed against the encroachments of federal mandates and vowed that the real conservatives of the legislature would fight to protect us from socialist medicine, same-sex marriage, jihadist attacks, federal dictates demanding “acceptance and promotion of immoral and abhorrent personal behaviors,” immigrants and higher taxes.
