Legislature Takes a Break from Durham Gossip to Deal With Legislative Issues

Tennessee lawmakers are in for a busy day as several big bills come up for consideration.

‘Slow Poke Law’

Lawmakers at the state capitol will debate whether slow drivers should get a fine for driving in the fast lane.

The so-called “Slow Poke Law” is scheduled for discussion Tuesday. House Bill 1416 would fine drivers $50 for driving in the passing lane when not passing another vehicle.

Exceptions do exist for weather conditions, traffic jams, and other situations.

Bill would force DUI suspects to wear monitoring devices

About half dozen bills geared to keep DUI offenders off the roads have been filed this session.

On Tuesday, Senator Kerry Roberts will introduce a bill that says anyone arrested for a DUI with a prior conviction will have to stay sober while out on bail. The proposal would require anyone arrested for driving under the influence to wear an electronic monitoring device that would show if they had anything to drink.
